Dear friends,
On May 9, 2020, we started a small solidarity campaign to raise funds for the purchase of a used fire truck for Psachna, Evia. This is one of the many projects we are working on as AHEPA A617 Frankfurt (as part of our social and charitable activities), always in collaboration with the charitable organization
Safers e.V.
This organization has been helping, supporting, organizing, and assisting many volunteer groups in Greece and abroad for years.
In Greece, the programs that have been implemented or are still being implemented include:
1. Neos Voutsas, Attica (implemented with our support)
2. Corfu
3. Halkidiki
4. Milos
5. Santorini
6. Samos
7. Ikaria
8. Psachna, Evia (implemented with our support)
9. Kefalonia
10. Vounaina, Larissa
11. Megara, Attica (implemented with our support)
12. Limassol, Cyprus
As AHEPA A617 Frankfurt, we are supporters of this effort and will help as much as we can.
For this particular effort to raise funds for Psachna, Evia, we set a goal of €5,000 to complete the remaining amount needed for the purchase. After announcing the campaign on social media (Facebook, etc.), we received support from 36 of our friends, and with their help, we raised €2,050.
The donation was completed, and with the remaining funds, we were able to purchase a fire truck, an “UNIMOG.” The vehicle was transported by road and sea to Greece and eventually to its destination: Psachna, Evia.
In a modest ceremony, the vehicle was handed over to the Volunteer Forces for Forest Protection and Rescue Association. In a statement on their Facebook page, the association made the following announcement:
“On Thursday, May 27, 2021, the official handover of an all-terrain fire truck took place from the German association
SAFeRS e.V. (SUPPORT ASSOCIATION FOR FIRE-AND RESCUE SERVICES). The association’s goal is to support other volunteer groups involved in rescue and firefighting worldwide, as stated on their website
www.safers-international.com. We were honored to receive this donation, which came after some members of their team visited us a few years ago and determined that we were an association with important work in the field of emergency services. The majority of the funds for the purchase of the vehicle were covered by an Austrian philhellene who remains anonymous. We thank them for their donation and the honor they have given us.
We especially thank the volunteers Daniel Keifenheim, Martin Hofmann, David Zenz, and Manfred Zeug, who brought the vehicle by road from Germany.”
The least I could do for you, the donors, is to personally thank each and every one of you for your kind generosity in supporting our cause and helping us achieve this common goal together. I present to you all the names as they appear with their real names or pseudonyms on the Facebook page:
